MOTHERWELL HERITAGE CENTRE

Aerial view of Motherwell Heritage Centre

Built on the site of the former Motherwell swimming pool, the Heritage centre was opened in November 1996. The building is a two storey curved block with a five storey viewing tower set into the main wall. The tower gives commanding views across Lanarkshire and the Clyde Valley.

Motherwell Heritage Centre enables the history of the district to be preserved for future generations and at the same time promote the heritage of the area to both the local community and to visitors.

Motherwell Heritage Centre at Night

Designed by architects Merrylees, Grierson and Robertson of Edinburgh the centre houses the gallery space, conference room, exhibition halls and library which make up the visitor attraction.

By emphasising the importance and unique identity of Motherwell and district it creates a focus for community pride and provides a springboard for community-based museum activities.

At night the tower is lit, providing a night light feature that can be seen for miles around.

Motherwell Heritage Centre is a four star Scottish Tourist Board Commended visitor attraction and winner in 1997 of the best audio visual programme in the Scottish Museum of the Year awards.

The centre is open Monday to Sunday 10am to 5pm (12 noon opening on a Sunday). On Thursdays the centre is open until 7pm. Admission is free. Please note the Local History Library is closed on a Sunday.
