The heritage centre also loans out Discovery Boxes free of charge. These contain original artefacts and images from the museum collection and can be used for school projects, community displays and trips down memory lane by pensioners groups or heritage societies.

The Discovery Boxes provide the chance to handle and discuss objects or photographs, which can help to stir the collective memory of the community or increase awareness of the local heritage. At present boxes are available which cover the topics of coal mining, Victorian games, Wartime Home Front and Children in Wartime. For more information on how to borrow a box please contact the heritage centre on 01698 251000.
